時の副詞節 - Adverb Clauses of Time
WEHNEVER, EVERY TIME
WHENEVER, EVERY TIME はどちらも「〜するといつも、〜する」という意味です。
Whenever I go to a bookstore, I want to go to the restroom.
Every time I saw her, she was eating something.
THE FIRST TIME...
THE FIRST TIME, THE SECOND TIME.., THE LAST TIME, THE NEXT TIME等は「初めて〜した(する)時」「二度目に〜した(する)時」「最後の〜した(する)時」「次に〜した(する)時」という表現法です。
The first time (that) I came to New York, I went to Times Square on the New Year's Eve.
The last time (that) I saw her, she looked fine.
The next time (that) I travel Germany, I try to speak German well.
FIRSTはちょっと混乱しやすい単語です。位置に充分気をつけましょう。
「初めてニューヨークに来た時」
The first time (that) I came to New York, I went to Times Square on New Year's Eve.
=I went to Times Square on New Year's Eve when I came to NY for the first time.
「ニューヨークに来て、一番最初にした事
When I came to New York, I first went to Times Square.
=The frist thing that I did in New York was to go to Times Square.
「まず最初に〜し、次に〜した。」
First I visited New York, and then move to Boston.
AS SOON AS, AS LONG AS
"AS SOON AS" "ONCE" は「〜してすぐ」という意味です。
"AS LONG AS" は「〜する限り」という意味です。
As soon as he came, we left there.
Once it stops raining, we will leave.
I will never speak to him as long as I live.
