Simple is the Best
英語の文章は込み入った表現を嫌います。それに対して、日本語の文章は込み入りがちです。直訳すると意味不明な文章が出来上がります。節が4つも5つも入っている文や、接続詞が続きすぎる文を英語は嫌います。接続詞には接続詞のルールがあります。
直訳はダメだよ、という例です。
<例>これ本当の話ですが、先日街を歩いていたら、前にいた二人がいきなり前喧嘩をし始め、おまけに後ろにいた人が止めようとして私を前に押すものだから、もう少しで１００キロはありそうな大男に殴られそうになりました。
×It is true story, but, a few days ago, when I was walking in the city, two people who were in front of me started fighting, and because another person who was behind me tried to stop them and pushed me forward, I was almost hit by one of the two guys, who looked about a hundred kilograms.
日本語訳があるのでなんの疑問もなく読んだ方もいると思いますが、"1 sentence 1thought" が基本の英語文としては、色んなことが一文にありすぎて、「で？何が言いたいの？」ということになります。
